Tool Works Supportive Housing

About the project

Neighborhood Housing Services New Britain (NHSGB) is a non-profit housing corporation that has been providing financial assistance, technical support, and housing-related services to neighborhoods in greater New Britain and Central Connecticut for over thirty-five years. Originally created to assist existing owners repair and improve their homes, the mission of NHSNB has expanded over the years to meet the demands of social, economic and cultural change in New Britain. Today, NHSNB is a partnership of residents, government and businesses collaboratively responding to the local housing, neighborhood revitalization and economic independence needs of its racially and ethnically diverse, working poor communities.

NHSNB serves the Greater New Britain area.

LISC provided NHSNB a $530,000 acquisition loan to support the redevelopment of the former Kern Tool and Die Facility into 24 units of supportive housing for formerly homeless adults. Supportive services will be provided by the Friendship Service Center. Units will be filled through the Central Coordinated Access Network, which connects people experiencing homelessness through the 211 emergency call-in line. FSC also operates a drop-in service center that offers direct services to people experiencing homelessness. This loan was funded using funds from Trinity Health of New England and the Community Investment Fund.
