Using Restorative Justice Practices to Reduce Exclusionary Discipline

This webinar is part of a series on the Comprehensive School-Based Violence and Victimization Program from LISC Safety & Justice and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). DOJ OJJDP provides national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to youth delinquency and victimization.

Overview

Many schools already use restorative practices and many more are interested in learning about how to incorporate them into their school safety strategies. In this webinar, presenters from the Center for Court Innovation share experiences and lessons learned from their three-year partnership in five Brooklyn high schools as part of effort to reduce school suspension rates in communities of color. Presenters describe how they engaged school staff and students to build relationships, address conflicts and reduce exclusionary discipline. The webinar begins with a moderated discussion reflecting on participant responses to a survey about their restorative justice efforts.
