State Farm has committed a new $2 million, one-year grant to support affordable housing, small business, income and wealth building, and healthy food access. With the new grant, State Farm’s support for LISC now totals $155 million since 2000! We celebrate this renewed commitment by reflecting on our impact together over more than two decades.
LISC and State Farm have a long history of working together to bring capital and opportunity to under-resourced communities across the country. Since 2000, State Farm has invested $155 million in LISC, leveraging $20 billion in additional support for community development projects and programs. Today, State Farm is our eighth largest grantor and eighth largest lender of all time.
With these resources, LISC has invested to create more than 78,000 affordable homes and 24.6 million square feet of commercial and community space, including schools, health centers and grocery stores. We’ve also invested to help community partners reclaim and revitalize parks, vacant lots and other spaces that were hot spots for crime and violence.
But our collaboration with State Farm goes beyond the built environment. For example, we’ve supported income and wealth building initiatives – largely through our Financial Opportunity Centers® – that have served 262,000 people, giving them the skills to advance along the path of employment and economic mobility. We’ve connected more than 10,000 small businesses – the lifeblood of our communities – to coaching and capital to help their enterprises grow and thrive. We’ve also improved community access to healthy, fresh and affordable food through programs ranging from urban agriculture to mobile food markets.
Our partnership continues in 2024 with a new $2 million, one-year grant from State Farm. The funding supports LISC’s work in a dozen markets: Atlanta, Bay Area, Chicago, Central Illinois, Houston, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Puget Sound and Twin Cities.
To mark this renewed commitment from State Farm, we are highlighting some of the things our partnership has accomplished in 2023.
