Financial Stability

LISC’s financial stability initiative addresses low- to- moderate- income families financial health and connects families with the financial and labor market mainstream. LISC partners with organizations that offer employment and career services, financial coaching and education and low-cost financial products that build credit, savings and assets. We accomplish this work through our Financial Opportunities Center sites.  The cornerstone of the FOC model is providing these services in an integrated way—rather than as stand-alone services—and with a long-term commitment to helping clients reach their goals.

Financial Opportunity Centers (FOC) are an important part of LISC’s approach to building strong, vibrant communities. Based on a model developed by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, FOCs provide individuals and families with services across three areas: employment placement and career improvement; financial education and coaching; and public benefits access. These core services are integrated to provide a multi-faceted approach to:

  • Increases individuals’ access to living wages through training and one-on-one coaching
  • Empowers people to take control over their financial future through coaching, financial literacy tools, career and job planning, and more.
  • Helps individuals increases their savings, improve their credit score, and build wealth through homeownership and business ownership.
