The Barrister

About the project

The Barrister project is being developed by Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC), Urban Sites Capital Advisors LLC (Urban Sites), and Over-the-Rhine Community Housing (OTRCH). 3CDC is a non-profit corporation with a mission and strategic focus to strengthen the core assets of downtown by revitalizing and connecting the Central Business District and Over-the-Rhine (OTR). Urban Sites was formed in 1985 with a focus on renovating historic properties in Over-the-Rhine and today offers development, construction, and property management services in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine and East Walnut Hills neighborhoods and in Covington, KY. OTRCH is organized primarily under the mission to provide quality, stable housing in socially, racially, and economically inclusive communities. Their work is primarily focused on projects in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine and Pendleton neighborhoods; their focus is primarily in Cincinnati’s central basin.

3CDC, Urban Sites, and OTRCH are located in Cinncinnati, OH.

LISC provided a total of $3.00 million dollars in financing ($345,000 predevelopment and $2.66 million acquisition loan) to support The Barrister, an adaptive reuse project including 44 units of affordable family housing in Cincinnati’s Central Business District. The renovation of two adjoining, currently vacant buildings will convert former office space to new residential units and will include small ground-floor retail. Of the 44 planned units, 15% are expected to be affordable to households with incomes at 30% AMI, with the remaining affordable at 50-60% AMI. The project includes 24 two-bedroom units and 8 three-bedroom units and will serve a family population. The project is anticipated to include 9% LIHTC, Federal HTC, State HTC and HOME funds from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency and City of Cincinnati. This project will bring much-needed affordable housing to downtown Cincinnati.
