Doc House Cinema

About the project

Since 1972, Downtown Community Television Center, Inc. (DCTV) has been providing outstanding and accessible media arts education to underserved populations. Guided by the belief that diversity of expression can bridge economic and social divides, DCTV offers a wide variety of supportive programs to community members with an interest in media arts but who are facing high barriers to entry.

DCTV is headquartered in Manhattan, NY.

LISC provided DCTV with a construction loan of $1,100,000 and a bridge loan of $1,000,000 to assist with their development of the Doc House Cinema, a 3,200 square foot, 74-seat cinema that will screen exclusively documentary films. In addition to the screening room itself, construction will include a projection room, entry lobby, vestibule, ticket sales booth, snack bar, restrooms, and storage space. At completion, the project will not only contribute to the cultural preservation of documentary and independent filmmaking, but will also provide 7 full-time and part-time jobs that pay livable wages and include benefits.
