TransLatin@ Empowerment Center
About the project
The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC) was founded in 2009 by a group of Transgender and Gender nonconforming and Intersex (TGI) immigrant women in Los Angeles, California, as a grassroots response to address the specific needs of TGI Latin@ immigrants who live in the United States. The mission of TLC is to advocate for the special needs of the Trans Latin@ community that resides in the USA and to plan strategies that improve our quality of life.
TLC provides services for Trans Latin@ folks in and around LA County.
LISC provided a $4.40 million acquisition loan to TLC to purchase a site for their new Behavioral Health Community Wellness Center. The proposed building will offer multiple social supportive services specifically designed for TLC clients, including a behavioral health urgent care center, intensive outpatient services and prevention and wellness activities to address the specific needs of clientele. The facility will be designed to optimize space for clients by providing private space for one-on-one behavioral health counseling and treatment, MAT services, legal services, employment counseling, and case management/systems navigation; group space for peer- and counselor-led support groups, behavioral health groups, yoga, and meditation and relaxation; and community space for various drop-in and planned activities including ESL classes, computer labs, food and clothing distribution, and showers.
