As a core partner of Global Citizen, LISC is thrilled to join in rallying for an equitable response to Covid-19 with Global Goal: Unite for Our Future all-star concert. And the extra bonus? Usher—yes, that Usher—is donating proceeds from his latest record to ramp up our work on behalf of minority small businesses and nonprofits!
LISC is honored to be a core partner of Global Citizen, the international, music-driven platform that raises awareness around extreme poverty and social injustice, and connects audiences with nonprofits like ours that help forge opportunity for people and communities. We have joined forces with Global Citizen and corporate partners in the collective movement to tackle the public health and financial devastation brought on by the duel pandemics of Covid-19 and structural inequality.
On Saturday, June 27, Global Citizen presented Global Goal: Unite For Our Future a two-part, digital and televised education and entertainment extravaganza. The event included a summit gathering world political, business and philanthropic leaders responding to the urgent call for development and equitable distribution of a Covid-19 vaccine.
And Dwayne Johnson hosted an all-star concert featuring music and entertainment icons ranging from Miley Cyrus and Shakira to J Balvin, Coldplay and Usher. And that’s when things got really exciting: Usher debuted his latest song during the event—a powerful and timely message to his sons titled “I Cry”—and he is donating his proceeds from the record to LISC, to support Black-owned small businesses and Black-led community organizations. We couldn’t be more thrilled.
We are also deeply grateful to our corporate partners Citi Foundation and P&G, who are committed to getting resources and support to communities reeling from the effects of the coronavirus and part of the Global Goal campaign. Our Rapid Relief and Resiliency and Small Business Recovery funds are delivering urgently needed capital and tech support to minority- and woman-owned small businesses and to thousands of community-based groups serving residents, all across the country, who are hit hardest by the crisis.
