LISC AmeriCorps

LISC Central Illinois began its sponsorship of an AmeriCorps program to work with partners developing solutions and creating positive change in their communities. The program combined community service with meaningful, hands-on work experience, training, and leadership development.

LISC Central Illinois AmeriCorps members served in many capacities:

• Housing counselors for first time homebuyers or to help prevent foreclosure
• Project managers to build or rehab affordable housing or acquire properties
• Financial counselors
• Job training and placement trainers and coaches
• Community engagement specialists encouraging volunteerism and connecting people to revitalize their neighborhoods

LISC AmeriCorps is part of the National Service Network, administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Our local AmeriCorps program assists nonprofit organizations working to revitalize Greater Peoria neighborhoods. These dedicated individuals have contributed service hours to their country in activities such as: 

• Helping individuals and families find and maintain affordable housing and avoid foreclosure;
• Recruiting volunteers and organizing community improvement projects; and
• Providing outreach and access to resources for communities; and

The benefits of AmeriCorps: Members gain unparalleled hands-on experience in the field of community development, a modest living stipend, and an education award at the completion of service. AmeriCorps placement sites gain committed, energetic service members to increase their organization's ability to make a difference.
