LISC Awarded a $28M HUD Section 4 Grant to Strengthen Local Nonprofit Housing Organizations Serving Under-Resourced People and Places Across the U.S.
LISC is among three of the country's largest community development and housing groups receiving a total of $83M in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Section 4 capacity building funding. LISC will use its $28M allocation to support 480 community development corporations nationwide, focusing on affordable housing access in historically disinvested communities. The grant includes a three-to-one match commitment of $85 million.

The Neighborhood Homes Investment Act, introduced in the House today and in the Senate earlier this year, would create a new tax incentive to fuel development of 500,000 affordable homes in under-resourced communities. “This legislation is the first step in mitigating the devastating impact that the [housing] crisis...has had on first-time and minority home buyers across the country, especially those in marginalized communities,” said Matt Josephs, LISC’s senior vice president for policy.
Senators Introduce ‘Neighborhood Homes Investment Act’ to Expand Affordable Homeownership Opportunities & Revitalize Communities
The ‘Neighborhood Homes Investment Act’ aims to create a new tax incentive that would produce starter homes in under-resourced communities. The Neighborhood Homes Coalition, a national advocacy group that LISC is a part of, estimates that the legislation would support a substantial economic impact over the next 10 years. As LISC’s Matt Josephs notes, “This legislation is the first step in mitigating the devastating impact that the [housing] crisis...has had on first time and minority home buyers across the country, especially those in marginalized communities.”

CDFI Fund Awards LISC Capital Magnet Fund Grant
The Treasury Department’s CDFI Fund announced a new round of Capital Magnet Fund grants to spur an expected $5.3 billion in affordable housing and economic development. LISC will use its $7.5 million award to leverage $181 million in development activity in urban and rural communities.
